Additional excursions:

Nicosia

Nicosia, the only capital in the world still divided in two. It represents a cosmopolitan, glamorous and busy city. The capital itself is steeped in history and culture. The charming old town surrounded by massive Venetian walls and the high concentration of museums, religious and historical monuments bring the spirit of the history of the Mediterranean island through the centuries. Our visits include the National Museum and the old town (Laiki Geitonia) with the medieval city wall which was built by the Venetians in the 16th century, the Cathedral of St. St. John’s Cathedral and the Bishop’s Palace. Walk along the famous Ledra Street to the checkpoint, where you will have enough time to cross the border on your own to the north and visit the cathedral there
St. Sophia
and the Büjük Khan caravanserai, or stroll around the city to have lunch, drink coffee or buy souvenirs.
Price: 30 euro per adult / 30 euro per child

Famagusta
In the late 1960s it was a modern European city, full of life and thousands of holidaymakers from all over the world who found shelter and entertainment in comfortable and luxurious hotels, enjoying the warm azure blue sea with unique golden sand. Here, by the huge picturesque bay of Famagusta, are the most beautiful beaches of Cyprus – a favourite holiday spot of world film stars. Richard Burton and Brigitte Bardot often spend their holidays there, and the Argo Hotel on Kennedy Avenue is considered Elizabeth Taylor’s favourite. However, Varosha’s fame as an ultra-modern resort – with plenty of comfortable 5-star hotels, prestigious restaurants, bars and nightlife – is suddenly fading. The summer of 1974 turned the fate of the town 180 degrees. The tragedy of more than 40,000 inhabitants of Varosha, who had to leave their homes within a few days after 20 July 1974, becoming refugees in their own country, is also well known. On the way out, people took with them only the essentials in the hope that – within days, a month, very soon – the UN peacekeeping troops would restore justice and life in Famagusta would continue as usual. A hope that has lasted more than 45 years. Visit the old town with the Othello fortress and the medieval cathedral. Possibility for lunch. Visit a leather goods centre. Visit the monastery of St. Barnabas, one of the oldest monasteries on the island. Visit to Salamin/
Salamis
– In the 6th century BC, Salamis was already an important centre on the seashore. The earliest archaeological finds here date back to the eleventh century BC (Late Bronze Age). Copper ore deposits made Cyprus one of the most important trade crossroads even at that time.
Price: 50 euro per adult / 50 euro per child

The Magic of the Troodos Mountains

On this excursion you will explore the green heart of the island of Cyprus. The higher your journey takes you, the more invigorating the pine scent in the air becomes. On the way to Troodos Mountain you will stop to taste the Cypriot fruit cakes “Glyko tou Koutaliou”. Kikos Monastery is your next destination. Located in the mountainous region of the Maratasa Valley at 1318 meters above sea level, it is considered the most prosperous monastery on the island. The icon of the Apostle Luke and beautiful frescoes adorn the walls of this abbey. In one of the villages of the Maratasa Valley, we will have time for a lunch break. In the afternoon we will head to Omodos, one of the most beautiful wine villages in Cyprus. Immerse yourself in the enchanting landscape of the picturesque countryside and stroll through the narrow streets. The Church of Timios Stavros is not to be missed during your stay. It is built on the foundation of an early Christian basilica. Before we head back to the hotel you will have the chance to sample the wines of the region, which is a must when visiting this mountainous region. Price: 60 euro per adult / 60 euro per child

Paphos and Limassol

Cultural program in the old town of Paphos with a visit to the archaeological museum and the ancient excavations. The Tombs of the Kings are located near Coral Bay. The area where they are located is divided into 8 complexes. Although its name says otherwise, no rulers were buried here, but it was the residence of the Ptolemies. The architecture attracts attention with columns and walls that are made in Doric style and are richly decorated with frescoes. The archaeological park is included in the list of
UNESCO
It includes monuments that date from antiquity to the Middle Ages. In between can be seen buildings with impressive craftsmanship and beautiful mosaic floors. These wonderful mosaics represent scenes from Greek mythology and most of them date from between the 2nd and 5th centuries. On the way – visit the place where Aphrodite was born from the sea foam. We will also see the most famous rock in Cyprus – the rock of Aphrodite. Limassol or Lemesos is the second largest city in Cyprus after the capital Nicosia, the main port of the island and a lively resort. Located in the south of the island in the bay
Akrotiri
. The old town of Limassol is located in the heart of the resort with narrow winding streets starting from the old fishing port. Here is also the Old Medieval Fortress from the 13th century, a legacy of the Crusaders’ presence on the island. It was once the venue of the wedding of the English King Richard the Lionheart, and today it has been converted into the Cyprus Medieval Museum, which houses many everyday objects, weapons, carvings, jewellery and more from that time. The old port is an ideal place for a romantic stroll, with its many old boats and small cosy restaurants serving Mediterranean delicacies. The old part has a new modern area for yachts and with many discos, bars, cafes, restaurants and shops for the entertainment of tourists.
