The Costa del Sol is a beautiful coastal region in the Andalusia region of southern Spain and is one of the most visited tourist destinations in the world. Its name means “Coast of the Sun”. The endless sandy beaches, the mild climate throughout the year, the variety of attractions and sights, the wide choice of hotels, the delicious food and the local traditions attract thousands of tourists here. Torremolinos – one of the most famous resorts on the Costa del Sol. It is located only 6 km from Malaga airport. Established in the 1950s, today the resort offers ideal conditions for relaxation and entertainment, both for young people and for family holidays. Excellent infrastructure, beautiful beaches, wonderful weather, leisure parks, well-kept green parks and gardens attract tourists here all year round.

Main attractions of the resort:

  • Aqualand Torremolinos is one of the most famous waterparks on the Costa del Sol with numerous water attractions for all ages.
  • Crocodile Park Torremolinos. The park is home to more than 200 crocodiles of different species, as well as the largest crocodile in Europe, 5 m long and weighing 500 kg.
  • Parque La Bateria. The largest park in the resort with an area of more than 74 thousand square meters, located near La Carihuela beach, with lots of greenery, a large artificial lake with boats, playgrounds, jogging paths, and many cannons left over from the Spanish Civil War, hence the name of the park.
  • Botanical garden Molino de Inca. Near the water park is the 40 thousand square meter Molino de Inca Botanical Garden, with more than 300 trees, a palm forest and more than 400 species of shrubs, flowers and other plants. The garden has a small river with artificial ponds and fountains, as well as observation platforms.
  • There are two miniature golf courses next to the beach – one in the Playa El Bajondillo area and the other at Playa la Carihuela beach.
  • Torremolinos Old Town – Calle San Miguel is the main pedestrian street in the historic centre of the resort, which cuts through the old part with countless shops, cafes and small picturesque squares.
  • The resort’s boardwalk is along the entire beach. Lined with many palm trees, restaurants and bars with beautiful outdoor terraces, it is a pleasant place to stroll by the sea.
  • Torremolinos beaches – just metres from the central Playa del Bajondillo beach is the resort’s largest beach , Playa de la Carihuela. It offers excellent swimming conditions with its clear and shallow waters, dark and clean sand, about 2 km long and 40 m wide. A well maintained and organised beach with additional services – lifeguards, water entertainment, sunbed and umbrella hire, playgrounds for children, showers.

Fuengirola is also one of the famous resorts on the Costa del Sol, in the south of Spain. It is located between the resorts of Marbella and Torremolinos, 26 km from the airport of Málaga. It is known for its beautiful beaches with a total length of 7 km, as well as the longest promenade in Spain with many palm trees, flowers, benches and restaurants – an ideal place to relax or take a stroll at sunset. The climate is Mediterranean with hot summers and warm winters, with an average annual temperature of around 19 degrees.

There are 7 major beaches in Fuengirola – Carvajal, Torreblanca, Las Gaviotas, Los Boliches, San Francisco, Santa Amalia and El Egido, with Santa Amalia and Los Boliches being the most popular. Santa Amalia is 1400 m long, with an average width of 20 m, Los Boliches 1000 m long, with an average width of 40 m. Las Gaviotas, another popular beach with tourists, is 2 km long and 60 m wide. The larger beaches are fully equipped and offer all the amenities for a relaxing holiday by the sea – sunbeds and umbrellas, medical station, showers, changing rooms, toilets, lifeguards, volleyball nets, water sports for hire, cycle paths, cafes and restaurants. On the promenade there are also typical Andalusian tapas bars to enjoy the rich local cuisine of Malaga – here you can try gazpacho, sardines, paella, the typical fried fish. The resort offers a lively nightlife, with most discos, bars and clubs located in the area around the port.

Apart from relaxing and having fun on the beach, the resort offers its guests other interesting places to visit and have fun. The history of the town dates back to the 2nd century BC and over the years it has been under the rule of the Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans and Moors. Remnants of these times are the old Moorish fortress, the fortress of Sohail, the Roman thermal baths in Torreblanca. Another attraction is the Bioparc Fuengirola zoo, where animals live in an almost natural environment – among rainforests, abundant vegetation, rivers, waterfalls, African and Asian jungles. The water parks Parque Acuatico Mijas and Costa Water Park will bring you refreshment and countless fun on hot summer days. A ride on the resort’s tourist train, a boat trip to Benalmadena, dolphin watching, the open-air museum with an exhibition of paintings by various artists, the marina, the two golf courses – Los Olivos and Los Lagos are just some of the local attractions.

No less interesting is the Fuengirola market, held every Tuesday, one of the largest open-air markets in Málaga, offering both locally produced goods and many products of world brands.

Near the Fuengirola resort one can visit the coastal town of Benalmadena – 8 km away, the capital Malaga – 20 km away, the picturesque village of Mijas – 10 minutes by car.

Benalmadena is a charming seaside resort in the heart of the Costa del Sol. It is situated at the foot of the Sierra de Michas mountains, just 11 km from Malaga airport, with 9 km of lovely sandy beaches. Benalmadena is a favourite holiday spot – here is one of the most modern marinas in Europe with many restaurants and entertainment options, the beautiful Sea Life aquarium, the pleasant promenade with many palm trees. Among the attractions of the resort are the Arab fortress Bil Bil, the Colomares Castle – dedicated to Christopher Columbus, the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. The old town of Benalmadena is located 3 km from the sea and is a typical Andalusian town with whitewashed houses, strewn with flowers and narrow cobbled streets. You can take a cable car up above the town and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views. Last but not least, delicious Andalusian food awaits you in Benalmadena, from seafood delicacies to the region’s typical tapas.

Later, this strategic location was inhabited by Muslims and twice came under the rule of the Spanish monarchy. It was the English who conquered it in the early 18th century and the territory has been in their ownership ever since.
