Peniscola – one of the most charming coastal towns on the entire Spanish Mediterranean. You’ll enjoy a stunning combination of gorgeous beaches and an old town perched on a cliff jutting into the sea. At 64 metres high, at the top of the cliff, the mysterious Order of Templars built their fortress in the 12th century and a century later, during the Great Schism, the Spanish Pope Benedict XIII, better known as Pope Luna, settled there. In the Artillery Park of the fortress you will have the unique opportunity to see live, and to feed rare birds. You’ll also have some time to “get lost” in the narrow streets of Peniscola, shop for souvenirs, sample the local Badum beer or Pope Luna’s favorite cookies. Because of its beauty and charm, Peninsula is also a favourite filming location, from the classic Calabuch (1956) and El Cid (1961) starring Sophia Loren to the new productions El Chiriguito de Pepe and the 6th season of Game of Thrones.

After breakfast, depart the hotel for one of the best preserved Roman archaeological sites in Spain, the UNESCO-listed Tarragona. Tarragona is a coastal town in the Costa Dorada region. During the excursion you will see some of its sights such as: The Devil’s Bridge, also known as the Aqueduct of Ferreres, with a height of 217 meters and a length of 26 meters, a spectacular example of the progress of Roman engineering; The Roman Amphitheater of the 2nd century, a magnificent building near the seashore; The Cathedral of Tarragona, built on the remains of a Roman temple dedicated to Augustus, will take you back in time, telling old stories; the preserved remains of the Roman Stadium, 325 metres long; some of the best preserved city walls outside Rome – the Via Augusta runs through the city.
